Week 6 - João Sanches


Hi again!

This week i mainly did two things:

  1. Developed a second prototype level to the game
  2. Restructured the design document based on the teacher feedback

Level:

Inspired by the wormhole mechanic Bernardo showcased in his prototype where the player teleported around, I developed a level based on this types of portals. 

While designing this level, i did a harder to reach portal allows the player to access the coin of the level. I also designed the last section to have a lot of portals and I think it is a really fun part of the level. In the future I want to change some things about this level - like changing the color of the walls, background, music, etc - to enhance the experience of the player.

This game could be a level maybe dedicated to Mercury (Because he is the fastest god and portals kinda fit that idea)?. Or maybe it's a level near Neptune, Uranus, because those are the most unexplored regions of the Solar System, so a wormhole could fit there too.

Side-note: I think the hitbox of the pizzaship is fairer now.

Design Document:

Overall, I would say I made the information easier to read, by adding a lot of information tables and changing the font for example. I would say I added a lot of missing information too, like the movie references that were not very well explained in the first document. I also expanded the information about the game references we did and also restructured a bit of the game play scenarios and gameplay loops. I think in those parts at least the document now respects what the teacher asked us to do : D

Thank you for the gameplay video. The game seems hard but fairer, with this feeling the player tends to blame himself when he crashes and not the game, this gives a greater sense of accomplishment when he succeeds. Good job!
